A Kitchen Spice Storage Guide: The Spice Must Flow!

19 Jun 2026

You know what they say in Dune: “He who controls the spice controls the umami-verse.” At least, we’re pretty sure that’s it. Either way, with Part Three landing in theatres soon, it got the Sigma 3 Kitchens team here thinking: Which storage solutions best control the flow of spice in your kitchen?

After all, we’ve all had to ransack a kitchen like some brutal spice baron when a recipe demanded cayenne pepper, right? And while misplacing of your spice won’t collapse a nation, it could spoil your bolognese or leave your turkey feeling dryer than Arrakis. Thus, we’ve made a spice storage guide.

So… what’s the best option? In essence, it’s subjective. Select whatever spice storage enables you to store your spices in a way that won’t require visionary foresight to find the cinnamon. Luckily, at Sigma 3 Kitchens, we have a trove of options you can browse, which we’ll explore in this article.

Spice Rack Cabinets

Many homeowners stack spices in an ordinary kitchen cabinet or a improvise a spice rack shelf as their first port of call. Practical and cost-effective, either option can certainly do the job, especially if you’re naturally organised with a well-kept cooking inventory.

A pantry cupboard like this Hawksmoor addition, for example, can provide all the inventory organisation of a wall spice rack. Its shallow shelves also prevent spices from layering, causing you to lose pots at the back – and you can close the door to boast a clean, minimalist look when hosting.

Spice Drawer Options

Fancy yourself a spice connoisseur? If you often sidestep common peppercorns and cumin in favour of experimental amchur powders and hogweeds, a shelf probably lacks the face-out capacity required for your collection. Likewise, a basic kitchen seasoning rack wouldn’t suffice. You’ll need a drawer.

Indeed, this more indulgent possibility, which provides the benefits of a full wooden spice rack that pulls out horizontally, enables you to reveal and browse your whole catalogue. Everything slides on smooth Blum runners, which Sigma 3 customers get with a lifetime guarantee on all moving parts.

Edward Lakin – Showroom Manager at Sigma 3 Kitchens Cardiff West

“Spice drawers are getting a lot of interest from our customers. It makes sense, given that historical alternatives included a countertop wireframe holder or an unpartitioned drawer that rattled with rolling spice pots. By comparison, a purpose-built spice drawer looks way more organised.”

Furthermore, on the subject of drawers, spice rack variations work best in minimalist rooms – like a desert modern kitchen, which you could reign over like a Dune tyrant. Their triple row compartments offer huge amounts of space, particularly when incorporated into our extra-wide LineaPlus drawers.

Wall Hanging Spice Racks

Some homes have extra base unit space for drawers. Meanwhile, others must utilise walls and tall units to showcase spices – and for those latter cases, door spice racks are perfect. A bit of a loose term, though, you can typically attach them inside kitchen cabinet doors or exposed on kitchen walls.

Consider kitchen spice racks as shown in this butler’s pantry and corner pantry. Available in Portland Oak, Tuscan Walnut, Blonde Oak or Espresso at Sigma 3, we can match spice organisers to any of four wood-effect cabinetry finishes to coordinate your kitchen fully with internal cabinetry finishes.

Luxury Spice Rack Larders

What if we said you can change the perception of your spices to see them as a designer asset? Indeed, built with all the glamour of a Rolex presentation box, pull-out spice rack cabinets – as featured here in a Tuscan Walnut Hawksmoor SpaceTower – align spices with treasure, as they should, given the price of saffron.

This elite option – which is more formal than a countertop spice rack or a hanging spice rack – promotes spices to a showpiece, beyond just a pragmatic add-on. More than just a spice drawer insert, it’s creative spice storage baked into the kitchen to maximise convenience and the overall look.

Pull-Out Vertical Spice Racks

Fine, but I don’t have a big space I can dedicate to cupboard space specifically for a large spice rack, you might be thinking – and you’re right. Not everybody has a gap for a horizontal sliding spice rack, nor a mounted spice rack that takes up a wall. Some need a more slimline solution.

Say hello to the MagnaSpace – a spice rack organiser for cabinet configurations in restrictive spaces. Inspired by the luxury of larger larders, this minimised choice also boasts Blum runners but with the elegant appearance of a stealth cabinet. Optimised for corners or next to a food-prep area, they offer easy access to your seasonings without obstructing access to priority utensils or staple ingredients.
