Practical Tips for Decorating Your Kitchen at Christmas

The Christmas period is finally here and most of us will be getting our beloved Christmas decorations out once again.

Most of our time is spent in the heart of the home during the festive period - the kitchen.

Think about it. The kitchen is where we spend hours cooking mouth-watering Christmas dinner and preparing delicious mulled wine. It's where we store all our yummy Christmas goods and gather for house parties to indulge over our festive favourites, but above all, it's a place where wonderful memories are made.

So why is it that we tend to neglect our kitchens when it comes to putting our Christmas decorations up?

It may be that we've exhausted all our efforts decorating other areas of the house, or that people are worried about Christmas decor getting spoiled in the kitchen or think that they'll get in the way of cooking.

But with the kitchen in such constant use over the holidays, we think it would be a shame not to transform it into a warm, festive environment, so we've put together some practical kitchen decorating tips to enable you to love your kitchen even more this Christmas...

Change up Kitchen Accessories

No household can do without essentials like oven mitts, aprons and tea towels. This makes a great excuse to add some festive flair to your kitchen and change them up with Christmas versions.

Festive Candles

Seasonal scented candles not only add scrumptious smells to our households, they're also great for creating ambience. Kill two birds with one stone and use festive scented candles in your kitchen.

Centrepieces

Get the most out of freestanding furniture and create a festive centrepiece to go on top. Choose a colour that is both Christmas-like and goes well when combined with the colour of your furniture, like this classic coffee table in Oxford Blue. The bright festive red contrasts and looks brilliant on top.

And you don't need to splash the cash. Why not create your own using things like pinecones, candles, evergreens and baubles and give your living space some creative flair and uniqueness.

Think Outside the Box

Like we said, you don't necessarily need to spalsh the cash to make your Christmas kitchen look fab. Add some individuality to your kitchen and create something out items you already have. You could add some baubles that match your kitchen's colour scheme and display them inside shelved wine glasses. See below how great these silver baubles look in this modern, H Line Collection kitchen.

Put Alcohol on Display

Make the most out of cabinets with beautiful interiors and open them up to display the Christmas goodies. Display spirits neatly and add some garlands or tinsel to add colour and celebratory decorations. Look how wonderful this Drinks Cabinet, The Connery looks all opened up.

Make the Most out of Open Shleves

Having open shelving makes Christmas decorating a whole lot easier! Look how great these cute ornaments look on two of these Mayfield Oak shelves. You could even go all out and display Christmas mugs and bowls there too.

Evergreens

Last but not least, no Christmas home is complete without evergreens. Instead of a Christmas tree taking up all your space, stick evergreen garlands on shelves and on top of cabinets. You could even hang a wreath on one of your walls to give the kitchen a natural homely feel.
